I was born and raised in Vernon, BC and been watching/following Junior hockey in Vernon my entire life. I have had season tickets since 1990 and only missed four Vipers home games since 2004. In the past thirty years I have missed 45 home games. I'm not a sports journalist, writer, reporter or work for the Vernon Vipers. I do not get paid for this blog and do this blog on my own personal time. I started and created this blog in November 2008 and have over 1.7 million viewers. For anyone who couldn't attend or watch today's Vipers game, here are my thought's and views from today's game. You may agree or disagree but we all have our own opinion on the game. I try and be professional and give a fare game recap from both sides. Thank you for visiting my blog.

I'm sorry for the late game recap but I had a family New Years day dinner after today's game and wasn't home until late.

I was at today's Vipers-Vees game as Penticton defeated Vernon 3-1 in front of 2,023 fans at Kal Tire Place.

Starting Goaltenders:

Vernon: James Porter Jr
Penticton: Carl Stankowski

1st Period: Twenty two seconds into this afternoon's matchup, Matt Kowalski at the side of the goal couldn't bury an opportunity in close on an early chance for the hometown Vipers. The visiting Penticton Vees responded with a quick push back shift, after Vees captain David Silye come back the other way got around a Vernon defender before going high and over the goal on a quality chance for Penticton. Back to back opportunities inside the opening minute of play. Three minutes in, the son of former NHLer Scott Niedermayer, Jackson Niedermayer with a nice move at the blueline, created some open ice before being stopped in close by James Porter Jr. About a minute and a half later, Penticton would get the games first power play. Seconds into the PP David Silye ripped a shot from the slot, that beat James Porter Jr but not the post as the Vees come within inches of opening the scoring. Penticton with a ton of pressure, only managed one shot with the man advantage as the Snakes killed off the minor. Just over five minutes later, the Vipers couldn't clear the zone after Matt Kowalski turned the puck over at the blueline. Colton Kalezic spotted Lukas Sillinger who setup the son of former NHLer Tony Amonte, Tristan Amonte who's quick shot from the high slot beat former Kelowna Rockets netminder James Porter Jr, giving Penticton a 1-0 lead at 11:30 Sillinger & Kalezic collected the assists. The Vipers responded with a good push back shift two minutes later. The Vees couldn't clear the zone, as the puck stayed in the offensive zone. Logan Cash setup Jo Jo Tanaka-Campbell who went back to the point to Christian Felton. Felton's point shot beat Carl Stankowski five hole, tying the game 1-1 at 13:39 Tanaka-Campbell & Cash drew the assists. There must have been traffic in front of the Vees netminder, because I think Stankowski should have been able to stop a slapshot from the point. With about three minutes remaining, Jo Jo Tanaka-Campbell used his wheels to open some ice, was stopped by Carl Stankowski driving towards the net, on a quality chance for the Snakes. The Vipers would get a late PP inside the final minute, but unable to capitalize before the buzzer. It was 1-1 after 20 minutes of play. I thought Penticton was the better team, had a lot more puck possession, zone time and were really skating hard, were giving the Snakes defenders with there team speed and transition game. The Vees didn't generate a lot of chances but rang a shot off the post on there lone power play. The Vipers didn't see a lot of time with the puck, so didn't see a lot of time in the offensive zone. I thought Vernon struggled with there passing and had troubles containing the Vees speed. The Vipers seemed to gain some life and a little momentum after tying the game, played there best hockey towards the end of the opening frame, looked better after tying the game. Penticton outshot Vernon 11-7.

2nd Period: The Snakes started the middle frame with the man advantage that was carried over from the 1st period. The Vees blocked at least two or three Vernon shots, were able to keep the Vipers away from the front of the net, managed to kill off the penalty. Minutes later after a strong forecheck and a ton of pressure in the offensive zone, the Vees managed to move the puck around. The son of former NHLer Doug Weight, Danny Weight setup Liam Malmquist at the side of the goal, giving Penticton a 2-1 lead at 3:24 Weight and Darwin Lakoduk drew the helpers. The Vees didn't take there foot off the gas and kept coming and in waves. It was all Penticton early and often. Just over two minutes later, after working the puck around, Carson Kosobud took a hit but stayed with the play, setup Evan McIntyre who's shot from the point, beat Vipers starting goaltender James Porter Jr, giving Penticton a 3-1 lead at 5:51 Kosobud picked up the only assist. Just past the halfway mark, Jackson Niedermayer's younger brother Joshua Niedermayer who was recently called up with the Vees, stepped over the blueline, ripped a low shot that forced James Porter Jr into making a large pad save, keeping this a 3-1 game. On the following whistle, a scrum informed in front of James Porter Jr as some pushing and shoving occurred as several players jumped into the mix. Joshua Niedermayer was the lone player going to the box for slashing. You can bet Fred Harbinson and the Vees bench weren't too pleased with this call. How does one player from one team, get pulled out of a minor scrum and sent to the penalty box and not one from the Vernon side? The Vipers will take it, and get there second PP of the afternoon. The power play was short lived as eleven seconds later, Viper forward/captain Connor Marritt took a kneeing minor in the neutral zone, sending the teams to four on four. On the following play, the Snakes looked to have a three on two rush, but a solid defensive play broke up the odd man rush. The Vees gained control of the puck, come back the other way, on what looked to be a four on two but the Vees forward couldn't connect on the pass. Penticton would jump on a late man advantage with less then two minutes left in the 2nd period. The Vees had some good looks, but couldn't capitalize before the buzzer. It was 3-1 Penticton after 40 minutes. The Vees were by far the better team as Penticton outplayed Vernon for most of the period. The Vees managed to kill off an early power play, before scoring the only two goals of the middle frame. Penticton with two quick back to back goals just over two minutes apart. For a second straight period the Vees didn't generate a whole lot for offence, but scored twice. Penticton was very good defensively, carried most of the play, had a lot of puck possession and were strong on the forecheck. The Vipers struggled offensively, went twelve minutes without a shot on goal, had troubles gaining any kind of traction, were missing passes, didn't play with a lot of energy or urgency, saw a lot of time in there own end. It was all Vees in the second period. Penticton outshot Vernon 10-9.

3rd Period: The Vees started the final frame on the man advantage that was carried over from the 2nd period. David Silye went in and around at least two Viper defenders before setting up Jackson Niedermayer going to the goal, would be stopped by James Porter Jr who made a large save. The Vees unable to capitalize on the PP as Vernon killed off the minor. Just as the penalty expired, the Vipers went on the power play. The Snakes looked very disorganized, made some poor decisions with and without the puck, eventually turned over the play with some poor passing. Colton Kalezic with some hard work, won the battle sprung former Vernon Vipers forward Tyler Ho in for the partial breakaway. Ho would be denied in close before Kalezic pounced on the rebound, was stopped in close before jamming away at the loose puck. James Porter Jr had to be sharp, was on his belly somehow managed to keep the puck out. Vernon really struggled with the PP, didn't record a single shot on goal as Penticton kills off the minor. About five minutes in, on what looked to be a goal mouth scramble, Hunter Donohoe joined the play down low, would be denied at the top of the crease on a big save from former Seattle Thunderbirds/Calgary Hitmen goaltender Carl Stankowski. Less then two minutes later, the Vipers went back to the power play. For a second straight PP the Snakes struggled, getting very little pucks to the net as the Vees killed off the minor penalty. With about six minutes remaining, Danny Weight with a quick back hand shot from the circle forced James Porter Jr into making a large left pad save off a shot from the left wing. The Vipers would get James Porter Jr to the bench with about 2:25 left in the 3rd. Vernon tried to press, had a few looks but a very tight defensive Vees team shut the door the final two minutes as Penticton hung on for the 3-1 victory. The Vees with another solid period of hockey, were the better of the two teams. Penticton created/generated a few good looks/opportunities early in the first half, carried a lot of the play in the first half. In the second half Penticton looked to take there foot off the gas and shutdown Vernon's offence the rest of the way. The Snakes had a slight edge in play towards the end of the period, but didn't create/or generate much for quality chances. Vernon went at least seven to eight minutes without a single shot on goal. The Vipers were lucky to get two shots on two 3rd period power plays. For a team that started the period down two goals, I didn't see any urgency or energy coming from the Vipers. For a third straight period the Snakes were missing passes, looked disorganised and showed very little emotion. I really liked Penticton's defensive game, limited the Vipers time & space, kept the Vernon shooters boxed out and to the outside and forced them into turning over pucks/making mistakes in the offensive zone. Penticton outshot Vernon 6-5.

Top Player's: (Vernon)

I didn't think any Vipers stood out or played very well in the loss today.

Game Thought's: (Vernon)

This was a very disappointing game from the Vipers. The Vipers have been playing a lot of divisional games the past few weeks and haven't played very well in many of them. With the Snakes having games in hand and trying to catch some of the teams ahead in the standings, losing these big four point games to divisional opponents isn't going to help your cause. I saw a Vernon team today that didn't have a lot of jump, energy and emotion. Ok maybe they played with a little jump at times in the 1st period but overall the team looked disorganised. In a game where your behind two goals and you go twelve minutes without a shot on goal in the 2nd period and at least seven to eight minutes in the 3rd period without a shot on goal, your not going to win many if any hockey games. I also didn't see any urgency from this team in the 3rd period. For a team down only two goals with a full period ahead, you think you would see some players if not the entire team, step up and play with some urgency and emotion. The Vipers were outplayed for most of the afternoon. The Snakes saw very little time with the puck, very little time in the offensive zone and had troubles getting pucks to the net and creating/generating chance. I think Vernon had three, maybe four or five quality chances all afternoon. The Vipers passing was also very very poor. The Vipers are struggling on home ice and seem to play better on the road. The Snakes played most of the first half of the season on the road, finish the season with most of there games at Kal Tire Place. Vernon needs to capitalize and take advantage of playing at home, but haven't lately or at all this season. The Vipers have lost three straight at home and five of there last nine home games. Things don't get any easier as the league leading Coquitlam Express are in town Saturday, before the Vipers face divisional rivals Wenatchee and Salmon Arm in there following two games, before Penticton returns on the 15th. I have said this before, the Vipers haven't been the same team since almost blowing a 7-2 3rd period lead in Merritt December 8th. I thought they played one of there better games in some time in there 4-2 win in Salmon Arm Sunday but the past three to four weeks, this team has looked and been very inconsistent. This team has troubles playing a full sixty minutes. I wasn't expecting a big crowd on New Years day but was surprised with the turnout. Former Vipers head coach/gm Mark Ferner and former Vipers scout/assistant coach Kevin Pederson were in attendance today. The Vipers have lost four of there last five games and lost eight of there last fifteen games. With the loss Vernon falls to 20-16-1-1 remain 4th in the Interior division are tied in points with Wenatchee, two points back of 3rd place Salmon Arm and eight points back of 2nd place Trail.

My Thought's on Vernon's new 3rd jerseys:

The Vipers unveiled there new 3rd set jerseys this afternoon as I had previously stated on the blog earlier this morning. I don't like the new third jerseys. The maroon colour has nothing to do with the Vipers main three colours,  I also don't like the diagonal stripe on the side of the jersey and keeping the teams original logo. Why did the Vipers go with maroon jerseys? There team colors are red, gold and navy blue. Most if not all teams go with a second logo for there third jerseys, but the Vipers decided to stick with the teams original logo. The Vipers should have gone back to the secondary snake logo they once had before on there 3rd set jerseys and or created/designed a new secondary logo. I'm sorry but I'm not a fan of these new jerseys.

Top Player's: (Penticton)

Evan McIntyre (1 goal) Played very well on the Vees backend, saw a lot of minutes, was very solid on the blueline.

Nico Somerville Was another Penticton defenceman that played very well. I really like this kid, he's added a lot to the Vees blueline since being acquired earlier this season from Victoria.

Danny Weight (1 assist) Played well collecting one assist. Not the biggest kid, but has a ton of speed, can move the puck and very skilled.

The line of Tyler Ho, Tristan Amonte (1 goal) and Colton Kalezic (1 assist) Gave Vernon defenders all afternoon. This line works hard, competes and causes turnovers. Is hard in on the puck, gritty along the wall and strong on the forecheck. Tyler Ho who played last season in Vernon, is a nice fit this season for the Vees after coming over from the Western Hockey League. Ho battled and competed, played hard and aggressive today. Tristan Amonte opened the scoring, has some skill, hard to defend against and quick. I really liked Colton Kalezic today, I thought he had a strong afternoon. Was hard on the forecheck, finished his checks, caused turnovers and was hard to play against, Brings that lunch bucket work ethic.

David Silye Your Penticton Vees captain has played very well against the Snakes this season. Silye didn't record a point in the win this afternoon, but was all over Kal Tire Place. This kid is quick, very skilled, hard to contain and defend against. Gave the Vipers troubles all day.

Jackson Niedermayer Played very well in the Vees victory. A bigger body, goes to the net and is involved in the play.

Lukas Sillinger (1 assist) Is another forward who seems to played well against the Snakes. I thought played well, does a lot of the little things behind the play and during the game, a lot of fans don't notice.

Carson Kosobud (1 assist) I really like this kid. A big steady physical d-man. Gets pucks to the net, is hard to beat one on one and logs a lot of minutes. Is another kid who has played well against Vernon this year, was very good in the win today.

Game Thought's: (Penticton)

Playing an afternoon game on New Year's day has to be tough for these kids. You can't tell me several players from either team weren't up ringing in the New Year last night. We were all young men at one point. Even if they were at home with there billet families, you can't tell me these young men would be in bed, while the rest of the family is ringing in the New Year. Today was also Penticton's first game since returning from the Christmas break. The Vees last played December 21st while the Vipers were playing there third game in five days. Give a ton of credit to the visiting Vees for coming into Vernon, playing a hard fought game fully deserved the 3-1 win and the two points. I really liked the Vees game from start to finish. I thought Penticton outplayed the hometown Vipers for most of the afternoon. The Vees were much quicker, won a lot of the races, battles, have a very strong and aggressive forecheck, are strong defensively and in front of there goal, carried the better of the play in all three periods, had more puck possession, zone time and created/generated more opportunities. The Vees defence was solid, blocked several shots, boxed Vernon's shooters to the outside, limited there time and space and forced the Vipers shooters into mistakes/turning over pucks. Both teams didn't really generate much for quality chances but the Vees capitalized on three of there's. Penticton looked ready to go from the start, played with a lot more jump, energy and speed. Overall this wasn't a very exciting or entertaining hockey game. The Vees have now won back to back games over the Vipers, lead the season series 3-2 return to Vernon January 15th. The Vees have won three of there last five games and won seven of there last ten. Penticton sits atop the Interior division are sixteen points up on 4th place Vernon and eight points up on 2nd place Trail.

Canada wins 2019 Spengler Cup

Championship is Canada’s 16th overall at annual international event

December 31, 2019

CALGARY, Alta. – Canada’s National Men’s Team has won its 16th Spengler Cup title with a 4-0 win over HC Ocelari Trinec in the championship game Tuesday.

The Canadians claimed their fourth championship in five years by outscoring their opponents 19-2, the fewest goals ever allowed by Team Canada in a single tournament.

“Every year we have a different group of guys, but it’s always so much fun to come here. Sean Burke and Hockey Canada have done such a great job of putting this team together,” said captain Maxim Noreau (Montreal, Que./ZSC Lions, NLA). “It’s great for our team and our families for the Spengler Cup to end with a win and we are going to enjoy it, but it’s really all about wearing the Maple Leaf and playing hard.”

After a goalless first period, Dustin Jeffrey (Sarnia, Ont./Lausanne HC, NLA) opened the scoring on the power play just over nine minutes into the second period. Before time expired in the second, Ian Mitchell (Calahoo, Alta./University of Denver, NCHC) and Kris Versteeg (Lethbridge, Alta./HK Nitra, SVK) added power-play goals of their own – both at five-on-three - to give Canada a 3-0 lead.

Jeffrey finished the scoring for Canada at 4:55 of the third period with his second of the game, while Noreau picked up his third assist.

Zach Fucale (Rosemère, Que./Orlando, ECHL) turned in another stellar performance in the Canadian goal, making 26 saves in his second-straight shutout. He finished with a tournament-leading 0.33 goals-against average and .986 save percentage.

“This team was unreal. We had an awesome group of defencemen and everyone made me look good. I really did not have to do anything special because our team played great, so it was a lot of fun,” said Fucale. “I just tried to stay focused and a few times throughout the tournament I got pretty lucky, but it was such a great experience with a great team.”

Prior to the game, Kevin Clark (Winnipeg, Man./SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers, NLA), Fucale and Noreau were named to the tournament all-star team. Clark led the tournament in goals (six) and points (eight).

The win gives Canada  the most Spengler Cup championships, one more than host HC Davos. Canada has raised the trophy 16 times since first participating in 1984 (1984, 1986, 1987, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019).

Beckman Sets New Franchise Record with Goal in Ten Straight in 6-4 Loss

January 3, 2020

Boxscore-Game Summary,

Game Highlights,

SPOKANE, Wash. — Minnesota Wild prospect Adam Beckman set a Spokane Chiefs franchise record on Friday night, extending his goal streak to 10 games in a 6-4 loss to the Portland Winterhawks.

The Chiefs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a misplayed puck behind the Portland net as Cordel Larson stripped Winterhawks goaltender Isaiah DiLaura and deposited it home at 3:32. Portland answered with a trio of goals — from Lane Gilliss, Gabe Klassen and Reece Newkirk — over the remainder of the period and held a 3-1 lead headed into the first intermission.

Reece Newkirk, a New York Islanders prospect and the Winterhawks’ team captain, registered the lone marker of the second period for his second of the night to extend the Portland lead to 4-1.

An action-packed third period saw five goals scored between the two teams, beginning with 2020 NHL draft prospect Jack Finley’s eighth of the year at 9:43. Luke Toporowski made it a 4-3 game at 12:29, but Portland’s Jaydon Dureau scored on the bump-up shift for Portland to push their lead back to two.

Beckman’s record-setting goal came with the Chiefs on the power play at 14:26 as he one-timed his 29th of the season in from the right circle. The WHL’s leading scorer, Beckman now stands alone atop the Chiefs’ goal-streak leaders, pulling away from a five-way tie at nine games: Jaret Anderson-Dolan (2018-19), Adam Helewka (2014-15), Marian Cisar (1997-98), Brent Gilchrist (1986-87) and Terry Perkins (1985-86).

Bonners Ferry, Idaho native James Porter Jr. made his Spokane Chiefs debut, coming in in relief of 16-year-old affiliated player Mason Beaupit at the start of the second period and stopping 15-of-17. Porter was acquired by the Chiefs in a trade with Moose Jaw on Friday morning.

Beaupit turned away 12-of-15 shots he faced in the first period. Portland’s Isaiah DiLaura went 31-of-35 for Portland.
The Chiefs converted on their one power play opportunity of the game and held Portland 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

For anyone who couldn't attend or watch tonight's Vipers game, here are my thoughts and views from tonight's game. You may agree or disagree but we all have our own opinion on the game. I try to be professional and give a fare game recap from both sides. Thank you for visiting my blog.

I was at tonight's Vipers-Express game as Coquitlam defeated Vernon 5-4 in front of 2,108 fans at Kal Tire Place.

Starting Goaltenders:

Vernon: Reilly Herbst
Coquitlam: Clay Stevenson

1st Period: The Vipers got the early jump on Coquitlam off the opening faceoff before taking an early penalty forty three seconds into the contest. The visiting Coquitlam Express only managed two shots with the man advantage as the Vipers with a very good PK killed off the minor. About four minutes into the period, Vernon product Colby Feist got a shot towards the goal that looked to handcuff Clay Stevenson, as the Snakes couldn't find the big rebound that rolled through the crease. Just before the halfway mark, Dawson Holt couldn't connect on a two on one pass, on a missed opportunity. In and around the same time, Vernon would jump on there first PP of the evening. The Vipers struggled with the man advantage, only had one shot on goal before Landon Fuller banged home the loose puck at the top of the crease, towards the end of the power play, giving Vernon a 1-0 lead at 10:03 Dawson Holt & Connor Marritt drew the helpers. On the next shift, Brett Fudger & Ryan Shostak with back to back chances, were denied in front by Clay Stevenson. Two big stops by the Express netminder as Vernon come close to jumping out to a 2-0 lead. With about six and a half minutes remaining, Dawson Holt with a heavy low shot would be stopped by Clay Stevenson who made a big pad save. About a minute or so later, Matthew Campbell "AP" tried banging home a loose puck on a bit of a goal mouth scramble, on the Express's first real quality chance of the game. Connor Gregga made his way to the dressing room with the trainer during the period, but seemed to be ok and returned to the hockey game. With less then two minutes left in the 1st period, Coquitlam would get a late PP to finish the period. The Snakes couldn't clear the zone inside the final ten seconds, left Christian MacDougall alone in front, who beat Reilly Herbst, tying the game at 19:57 Jashua Wildauer and Nicholas Carabin collected the assists. Giving up the tying goal with 3.3 seconds left in the frame was a killer. It was tied 1-1 after 20 minutes of play. The hometown Vipers were ready to play and outplayed Coquitlam for most of the first period. I really liked Vernon's game early and often. The Vipers were physical, laid out at least four or five big checks, were strong on the forecheck, carried most of the play, had a ton of puck possession and a lot of the period in the offensive zone. The Snakes were getting pucks to the net, created/generated a few good looks/chances were by far the better team. The Vipers could have easily had a few goals this period. The Express played last night in West Kelowna and it showed. Coquitlam didn't get off to a great start, looked slow and sluggish for most of the period. The Express played most of the 1st in there own end, were chasing Vernon all period. Clay Stevenson kept his team in the game as the Express were very lucky to be in this game. How big was the game tying goal with 3.3 seconds remaining? Instead of being down a goal, were now tied heading into the 2nd period. Vernon outshot Coquitlam 15-6.

2nd Period: Inside the opening minute, the Vipers turned over the puck inside the blueline, allowing Cooper Connell to go in for the breakaway and beat Vernon Vipers starting goaltender Reilly Herbst with a wicked wrist shot, giving Coquitlam a early 2-1 lead at 0:28 Connell's goal was unassisted. The Vipers responded with a good push back shift. Logan Cash would be denied in close off the following draw, after Coquitlam Express netminder Clay Stevenson made a quick glove save, keeping this a 2-1 game. Shortly after on a delayed penalty, the Express kept control of the puck, Nicholas Carabin got in across Vernon's blueline, setup Greg Lapointe, giving Coquitlam a early 3-1 lead at 2:17 Carabin with the lone assist. The Vipers with not a great start, give up two opportunities and both times the puck ends up in the back of the net. Jason McKee was forced to call an early timeout to try and re group the troops. Minutes later Vernon would get an early power play, the Vipers with a few looks couldn't capitalize with the man advantage as Coquitlam killed off the minor. Just as the penalty expired, the Snakes sprung Cameron MacDonald in for the breakaway, but Clay Stevenson with a large left pad save, kept this a two goal game. The Snakes didn't quit and kept pressing. On an odd man rush, Viper captain/forward Connor Marritt looked to have gotten Vernon back to within a goal, but somehow Clay Stevenson got across the blue paint to rob Marritt at the side of the goal, on a highlight reel save. Shortly after Matt Kowalski with a good look/even better opportunity couldn't solve Clay Stevenson. With the Vipers pressing and the Express back on there heels, the Snakes had some very good looks, just missed the net. Clay Stevenson and the Express had to be sharp was forced to make at least two or three big stops in and around the crease with Vernon pressing. Just before the halfway mark, the Express sent Tyler Schleppe in for the breakaway would be denied by Reilly Herbst. At the other end of the rink, Ben Helgeson on a breakaway, couldn't beat Clay Stevenson. Minutes later, Jo Jo Tanaka-Campbell drove hard to the goal, beat Clay Stevenson five hole, cutting Coquitlam's lead to 3-2 at 13:47 Hunter Donohoe and Landon Fuller with the assists. Shortly after Christian MacDougall couldn't solve Reilly Herbst on a wrap around. Minutes later, Connor Marritt setup Dawson Holt who tied the game 3-3 at 18:59 Marritt and Cameron MacDonald picking up the helpers. With 1:01 remaining this goal got the fans to there feet and brought some life back into the building. The Express with a very late push inside the final minute. In the dying seconds, the Vipers left Bradley Ong unattended in front of the blue paint. Coquitlam got the puck in front just a second before the final buzzer as Vernon catches a break. It was 3-3 after 40 minutes of play. The Express may have jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead just over two minutes into the middle frame, but it was all Vernon for most of the remainder of the period. For a second straight period, the Snakes carried most of the play, had a ton of zone time, puck possession and a ton of quality chances in and around the net. The Vipers missed the net a lot but also created some very good opportunities, couldn't bury there chances. At one point, Coquitlam went at least six minutes without a shot. The Express played a lot of the period in there own end, once again were chasing Vernon and relying on there goaltender to bail them out. If it wasn't for Clay Stevenson this could have easily been a 8-3 game at this point in the hockey game. Vernon dominated the Express at times, rallied down two goals to tie the game. This was a very exciting and entertaining period if you were a Viper fan. Vernon outshot Coquitlam 19-9.

3rd Period: Inside the opening minute, Clay Stevenson turned over the puck behind his own goal, was forced to scramble back into the crease, where Cameron MacDonald looked to have a wide open cage, before Stevenson somehow managed to slide back into the blue paint to just get a piece of MacDonald's shot, for an unbelievable save. Dawson Holt on the rebound, looked to beat Stevenson on the wrap around but couldn't on two grade A chances for Vernon. Three minutes into the period, a shot from the high slot looked to get redirected on it's way to the net. Tyler Schleppe looked to get his stick on the shot, that looked to beat Reilly Herbst as the play continued. The goal light didn't come on, while the official who was in the corner waived off the goal immediately as play went up the ice. Schleppe threw his arms in the air as if he scored. I didn't hear the puck ring off the crossbar as it looked to go up and under the crossbar and come back out. No complaining from the Express bench as the play continued. It was still tied 3-3. About two minutes later, Logan Cash with a quality look/opportunity couldn't solve Clay Stevenson, while Greg Lapointe had a quality chance at the other end of the rink, couldn't beat Reilly Herbst. Two quality chances at both ends of the rink. Shortly after the Snakes on a goal mouth scramble couldn't get the loose puck to go in. For the first time tonight, the Express slowly started to find there game as the play picked up at both ends of the rink. The Vipers had several looks in and around the goal, couldn't catch a break or get a bounce with Vernon pressing. Just past the midway mark, Adam Trotman's shot looked to be redirected in front by Tyler Schleppe, beating Reilly Herbst high, giving Coquitlam a 4-3 lead at 13:35 Trotman drew the helper. Just over a minute later, the Snakes would get the only PP of the final frame. Vernon struggled with the man advantage, as the Express killed off the penalty. Seconds after the penalty expired, Cameron MacDonald setup Landon Fuller, who's shot from the point beat Clay Stevenson, tying the game 4-4 at 17:15 MacDonald with the lone assist as Jason Fortier slammed his arm against the glass as the Express head coach/gm was not happy behind the bench. Fuller and the Viper bench erupted as Kal Tire Place went into a frenzy. But fifty five seconds later, Adam Trotman's shot would be redirected in front by Ethan O'Rourke, giving Coquitlam a 5-4 lead at 18:10 Trotman & Tyler Schleppe collected the helpers. Coquitlam wouldn't allow Vernon through the neutral zone as the hometown Snakes had troubles getting into the offensive zone. With time winding down, the Vipers had troubles getting Reilly Herbst to the bench. The Vipers finally got across the blueline and got Reilly Herbst to the bench for the extra attacker with about 1:08 remaining. But Vernon had troubles getting set and pucks to the net as the Express with a strong defensive game inside the final minute, would hang on for the 5-4 victory. For the first time tonight, the Express were able to get there legs going and gain some traction in the final twenty minutes. Coquitlam was able to create and generate some offence and zone time, played there best period of hockey in the 3rd. Both teams were even at times but at times the Vipers still looked like the better team, had the edge in play. Both teams shared chances at both ends of the rink. The Snakes had at least three if not four real good looks/opportunities, needed to bury these and didn't. Vernon made a few mistakes/defensive breakdowns and it cost them two goals. Once again for a third straight period, Clay Stevenson was the difference, made some large saves, also got very lucky on a few stops. The Coquitlam goaltender struggled at times, fighting the puck, lost sight of the puck at times, still managed to battle and make the big stops when needed. The Vipers couldn't capitalize on there chances and the Express did. Coquitlam scored some timely goals late. Vernon outshot Coquitlam 19-11.

Top Player's: (Vernon)

Landon Fuller (2 goals & 1 assist) The veteran 20 yr old d-man had a strong game on the Vipers blueline. Was physical, finished his checks, was smart and played very well at both ends of the rink. In the 1st period, Fuller fell to the ice on a few separate occasions. Not sure if it was his skates or problems with the ice.

Ben Sanderson I thought added some speed, played with pace, made things happen, created/generated some chances.

Dawson Holt (1 goal & 1 assist) Had a strong night for the Snakes. Was one of the better and more dangerous forwards in the loss. Used his speed and strength to create and generate opportunities. Was hard to contain and defend against. Was always involved in the play.

Jo Jo Tanaka-Campbell (1 goal) I didn't really notice early on in the game but stepped up his play as the game went on. Had a strong 2nd period.

Logan Cash was physical, had some looks/opportunities, worked and competed all night. I thought played well.

Cameron MacDonald (2 assists) Had some grade A chances but couldn't find the back of the net. Was stopped on a second period breakaway, had what looked to be a wide open cage early into the 3rd period, was robbed by Clay Stevenson. Played well.

Game Thought's: (Vernon)

For the first time in a very long time, the Vipers played very close to sixty minutes. This was probably the best game I have seen this team play all season. Sure they made some mistakes and missed some passes etc but overall I really liked Vernon's game. I thought the Vipers dominated and outplayed the Express most of the night and deserved a better fate. The Snakes carried most of the play, had a ton of zone time, a ton of puck possession and a ton of quality chances but once again, have troubles scoring. Vernon could have easily had ten or more goals tonight if they would have buried there opportunities. I thought the Vipers were strong on the forecheck, forced some turnovers and had the Express back on there heels for a lot of the game. The Snakes needed more then one goal in the opening frame. Vernon outplays the Express but are only up a goal before giving up a late goal with 3.3 seconds left. This seemed to change a bit of the momentum and Coquitlam gains a little life, scores two quick early goals two minutes into the 2nd period. The two goals against early to start the 2nd period, were killers. Vernon now has to rally and come from behind to at least tie the game. If the Vipers jump out to a two or three goal lead in the 1st period, Coquitlam is now the team reeling and having to claw back. Vernon doesn't have the team to jump out to a three or four goal lead and bury teams. Tonight's game was a prime example. The Vipers could have easily put this game away in the 2nd period but instead are the team down two goals, have to rally to tie the game. Give the Vipers credit, they didn't panic, they stayed the course, stuck to there game plan and battled back to tie the game. This was a game the Vipers needed to take the lead and run with it, a game where they fully deserved the win but come up short. Where has this team been all season? If the Vipers can play like this most night's, look out. The Vipers have a quick turnaround, host the Wenatchee Wild tomorrow afternoon. Wenatchee last played Friday, had tonight off. It will be interesting to see if the Vipers can repeat with the same type of performance tomorrow. The Vipers have struggled at home this year. Vernon has lost four straight at home and six of there last nine home games. The Vipers have lost back to back games, have one win in there last six games, have lost nine of there last sixteen games. Assistant Coach Larry Draper wasn't on the bench tonight. With the loss Vernon falls to 20-17-1-1 remain in 5th place, two points back of Wenatchee and Salmon Arm and twelve points back of 2nd place Trail.

Top Player's: (Coquitlam)

Nicholas Carabin (2 assists) Not the biggest defenceman but quick and can move the puck. I thought played very well at both ends of the rink.

Tyler Schleppe (1 goal & 1 assist) Slowly found his game about halfway through the game and got better as the game continued. Goes to the net, a bigger body, has a good stick and involved in the play. Was very dangerous in the 3rd period, gave Vernon troubles.

Ethan O'Rourke (1 goal) Scored the game winner late in the 3rd. One of the bigger forwards for the Express, was one of the more consistent players for Coquitlam in the win. I thought did a lot of the little things a lot of fans don't notice.

Adam Trotman (2 assists) Had a strong third period, chipping in with two assists. This kid read the ice well, was involved in the play, threw pucks at the net, a smart player that had a good game.

Clay Stevenson (49 saves) How doesn't this kid get first star or even a star? Stevenson was the difference. Stevenson was solid between the pipes in a 2-1 win over Vernon in November. Tonight I thought he struggled at times. Was fighting the puck, lost sight of the puck on several occasions, got lucky at times, also made some unbelievable saves tonight. The Vipers could have easily had ten or more goals if it wasn't for Stevenson.

Game Thought's: (Coquitlam)

After playing in West Kelowna Friday and the Vipers having last night off, you could tell pretty early who was the sharper team. The Express looked slow and very sluggish through out most of the game. It wasn't until the 3rd period when Coquitlam seemed to get there legs going, started moving there feet, which lead to creating/generating some chances. Coquitlam was outplayed most of the evening and had no business being in tonight's hockey game, but good teams find ways to win, even if they are outplayed in a game like tonight. It's good teams like Coquitlam, who only need one shot to tie or win a hockey game. This is how good teams win and win games they shouldn't win. The Express played most of the game in there own end, were chasing the Snakes through out the contest. The Express had all kinds of trouble with Vernon's forecheck. Coquitlam's defence were back on there heels most of the night. The Express didn't see a lot of action in the offensive zone until the final twenty minutes. Coquitlam had troubles getting out of there own end, creating opportunities and gaining any kind of tranction. If you didn't follow the league and didn't know either teams record or stats, you would have never guessed the Express have only lost five games and the best team in the league. The Express capitalized on there chances, scored some timely goals and made Vernon pay for there mistakes and heavily relied on there goaltender. I wasn't very impressed with Coquitlam. They have a bigger team that isn't very physical. The Express were playing with six regular's out of the lineup and acquired 20 yr old veteran defenceman Joey Berkopec from the Merritt Centennials today for future considerations. The Express won just there third game in Vernon since 2003. With the win the Express have won a franchise record sixteenth straight game. Coquitlam's last loss was a 2-0 loss in Powell River November 10th. With the win Coquitlam improves to 35-5-0-0 sit atop the league standings are twenty three points ahead of Chilliwack in there division and eight points ahead of Penticton in the overall standings.

I was born and raised in Vernon, BC and been watching/following Junior hockey in Vernon my entire life. I have had season tickets since 1990 and only missed four home games since 2004. In the past thirty years I have missed 45 home games. I'm not a sports journalist, writer, reporter or work for the Vernon Vipers. I do not get paid for this blog and do this blog on my personal time. I started and created this blog in November 2008 and have over 1.7 million viewers. For anyone who couldn't attend or watch today's Vipers game, here are my thought's and views from today's game. You may agree or disagree but we all have our own opinion on the game. I try to be professional and give a fare recap from both sides. Thank you for visiting my blog.

I was at today's Vipers-Wild game as Vernon defeated Wenatchee 7-3 in front of 1,701 fans at Kal Tire Place.

Starting Goaltenders:

Vernon: Reilly Herbst
Wenatchee: Daniel Chenard

1st Period: The Wild jumped on the Vipers off the opening faceoff. Reilly Herbst had to be ready and sharp, was forced to make several key saves early in the hockey game. I noticed the shots were 3-2 for Wenatchee about two minutes in, and thought was a little strange as Vernon had yet to get across the Wild blueline. Somehow the Vipers were credited with two shots on goal, without getting a shot on goal. The Wild were all over the Snakes and outshooting Vernon 8-2 five minutes into the opening frame. Just over five minutes in, Brett Fudger lead a two on one rush, Fudger decided to keep and shoot, went high glove on former Chilliwack Chiefs goaltender Daniel Chenard, giving Vernon a 1-0 lead at 5:23 Ryan Shostak and Landon Fuller drew the assists. The Vipers scored on just there third shot of the afternoon, but if you take away the first two shots that were actually not shots on goal, Fudger's goal was the Vipers first shot of the game. The Vipers had no business being in this hockey game, were outplayed the first five minutes, but had the early lead. Minutes later the visiting Wenatchee Wild would get the games first power play, would get a few good looks but didn't really generate any real quality chances as the Snakes killed off the minor. Wenatchee was outshooting Vernon 10-3 at the midway mark. With about 4:55 left in the 1st period, Nick Cafarelli would get two quick back to back shots low along the ice, would be denied twice by Reilly Herbst, who made two quick saves, keeping this a one goal game. The Wild would a late PP, there first of the afternoon. Halfway through the man advantage, Sam Morton was stopped on a nice save off Reilly Herbst before Brett Chorske buried the rebound, tying the game 1-1 at 18:25 Morton & Drew Bavaro collected the helpers. Inside the final minute, Dawson Holt tried setting up Matt Kowalski on an odd man rush, but Dylan Herzog with a good stick/defensive play, broke up the Snakes odd man rush. On the same shift, Herzog blocked a shot and was forced to make another strong defensive play towards the end of the period with the Vipers pressing in the final thirty seconds. It was 1-1 after 20 minutes of play. It was all Wild for most of the first twenty minutes. Wenatchee outplayed the hometown Vipers from almost start to finish. The Wild carried the better of the play, saw a lot of action in the offensive zone, had more puck possession and zone time, were by far the better of the two teams. Wenatchee who last played Friday night at home in an 8-0 win over the visiting Victoria Grizzlies, looked fresh, had there legs moving and played with a lot of pace and energy. The Wild were throwing pucks to the net, didn't generate a lot of quality shots but had some good looks and shots from in and around the crease, couldn't solve Reilly Herbst. The Vipers who battled hard in a disappointing 5-4 loss Saturday to the league leading Coquitlam Express, had the quick turnaround this afternoon and it showed. Vernon didn't have there legs going, looked a little sluggish and worn down at times. The Snakes saw a lot of the period in there own end, were chasing the Wild, relied on there goaltender to bail them out at times. The Vipers were basically just hanging on at times, had no business being in today's game. Wenatchee outshot Vernon 18-6.

2nd Period: The Wild got off to a quick start, jumped on Vernon for a second straight period. Noah Lugli jumped into the play, was stopped in close inside the opening minute on a big save off Vernon Vipers starting goaltender Reilly Herbst. On the same play/shift, the Wild moved the puck back to the point and at exactly one minute into the middle frame beat Reilly Herbst but not the goal post. The Wild thought they had scored as the goal light even went on as play continued. You could hear the ring off the far post from my seats while no call from any of the two officials while the game continued. On the first stoppage in play, head coach Chris Clark was having a chat with one of the officials but a quick one at that, as no real protest from the Wenatchee Wild as the game continued. This was a bit of a turning point as 1:35 later on some nice three way passing, Trey Taylor setup "AP" Isaac Suppin at the side of the net, scored his first career BCHL goal, giving Vernon a 2-1 lead at 2:35 Taylor & Brett Fudger picked up the assists. On the following play the Snakes would jump on an early man advantage, but unable to capitalize as Wenatchee killed off the minor. Just over three minutes later, Colby Feist got in behind the Wenatchee defenders, beat Wenatchee Wild starting goaltender Daniel Chenard on the breakaway, giving Vernon a 3-1 lead at 8:22 Feist's goal was unassisted. Thirty seven seconds later, Noah Lugli went back to the sin bin for his second straight penalty, sending the Vipers back to the PP. The Snakes couldn't capitalize with the man advantage as the Wild killed off the minor. Two big PK's from Wenatchee. Less then two minutes later on a goal mouth scramble, Dawson Holt somehow managed to get the puck through the pile of bodies in and around the blue paint, giving Vernon a 4-1 lead at 12:52 Helgeson and Landon Fuller picked up the helpers. Daniel Chenard was in some discomfort with his left arm. The Wild netminder needed some attention from the trainer, on a bit of a delay. Backup goaltender Noah Altman put on his gear and was stretching on the bench, but didn't have to come into action as Chenard seemed to be ok and stayed in the hockey game. Landon Fuller took a puck to the throat after blocking a shot, raced to the dressing room, was ok and returned to the game. With just over a minute left in the 2nd period, the Vipers with some nice three way passing, eventually setup Vernon product Matt Kowalski who spotted the open cage, giving Vernon a commanding 5-1 lead at 19:00 Logan Cash and Jo Jo Tanaka-Campbell collected the assists. Forty two seconds later, Jackson Caller with a heavy hit on Hunter Hastings in the corner deep in Vernon's zone. Brett Chorske jumped in, crosschecked Caller twice in the back of the neck area as several players got involved in the minor scrum inside the final minute of play. Caller would ejected from today's game, was given five minutes for boarding and a game misconduct. Chorske somehow didn't get called for the crosscheck as the Wild catch a huge break. With only eighteen seconds remaining in the middle frame, the Wild unable to do anything with the PP before the buzzer. It was 5-1 Vernon after 40 minutes of play. The Wild jumped on the Vipers off the opening faceoff, had a real good opportunity inside the opening minute, couldn't beat Reilly Herbst before ringing a shot off the post shortly after. Two real good chances for Wenatchee but the games still tied. Vernon responds and comes back a minute and a half later to grab the 2-1 lead. This goal was huge, gave the Snakes some life, momentum and confidence as Vernon got better as the period continued. The Vipers didn't get many opportunities but capitalized on there chances. Wenatchee carried the play at times, but didn't get many chances, seemed to give up a goal on the next shift. I thought the Wild were the better team in the first three to five minutes and the last three to five minutes but it was the Snakes that were the better team in between those minutes. Vernon had players from the bottom six step up and play big this period. The Vipers found there legs and played with a lot more jump/energy this period. Vernon outshot Wenatchee 15-9.

3rd Period: Wenatchee started the final frame on the man advantage that was carried over from the 2nd period. With almost a full five minutes on the power play, the Wild would find the back of the net early. Reilly Herbst got a piece of Harrison Scott's shot from the high slot, but not enough as the puck went over Herbst and into the back of the net, cutting Vernon's lead to 5-2 at 1:45 Tyler Young & Trevor Griebel with the assists. With almost three minutes remaining on the five minute major, the Vipers PK shutdown Wenatchee's PP the remainder of the power play. The Snakes blocked several shots and kept the Wild to the outside, limited Wenatchee to only three shots with the PP as Vernon killed off the remainder of the major, getting a large cheer from the crowd. Shortly after the Vipers sprung Connor Sleeth in for the breakaway, who would be stopped by Daniel Chenard. Shortly after on a hard working shift from the Snakes, Jack Glen (owners son) spotted a rebound in front, for his first career BCHL goal, giving Vernon a commanding 6-2 lead at 6:48 Trey Taylor and Hunter Donohoe with the assists. Four minutes later the Vipers would get called for too many men on the ice, on a play where the one player jumped over the boards but quickly back onto the bench, the Snakes didn't touch the puck or go near the puck but the far linesmen blew the play dead, calling Vernon for too many men. Wenatchee with there fourth PP of the afternoon. Just over a minute into the man advantage, the Snakes would go down two men after being called for a trip behind the goal. Viper fans didn't like the call, let the officials hear about it. With a two man advantage, seconds later Brett Chorske from a sharp angle beat Reilly Herbst at the side of the goal, cutting Vernon's lead to 6-3 Luke Ormsby collected the assist. The Viper faithful let the officials hear about what they thought of the penalties, were giving it to the officials after the goal. The Vipers were forced to kill off the remainder of the second minor. Less then two minutes later Tyler Young didn't like a hit a Viper dished out, went directly after Trey Taylor, dropping his gloves. Taylor skated away, while Young would be sent to the dressing room with a ten minute misconduct. Less then four minutes later Ryan Shostak spotted Cameron MacDonald down low, beat Dainel Chenard giving Vernon a 7-3 lead at 17:53 Shostak with the lone helper. With the game out of reach and fans already making there way to the exists, Ethan Wolthers found some open ice, got behind the Vernon defence in the dying seconds would be stopped by Reilly Herbst on a large save towards the end of the game. Vernon would defeat Wenatchee 7-3. The Wild could have easily climbed back into this hockey game or got to within a couple of goals, only scored once on the five minute major. The Vipers PK was very good. After that the remainder of the game didn't see a lot of action. The Wild carried a lot of the play, but didn't really get any quality chances, had troubles getting pucks to the net. Both teams didn't show much life in the 3rd period in a bit of a snoozer. I will give the Snakes credit for playing well defensively. This was a pretty dull-boring period after the five minute major. The Vipers sat back with a huge lead and the Wild just couldn't gain any traction down by three or four goals. Wenatchee outshot Vernon 7-4.

Top Player's: (Vernon)

Reilly Herbst (31 saves) The Vipers netminder had to be ready and was sharp early and often in the opening frame. The Wild jumped on Vernon off the opening faceoff and if it wasn't for Herbst making some quick/key saves in the opening minutes, this could have been a different hockey game. Herbst didn't have to make any real stand out saves this afternoon, but definitely had to be alert and sharp when the Vipers were outplayed in that 1st period. Wenatchee outshot Vernon 18-6 in that first period and could have easily popped a few goals if it wasn't for Herbst.

Game Thought's: (Vernon)

After battling hard and playing in there best game of the season, in a disappointing 5-4 loss to Coquitlam last night, the Snakes had a quick turnaround with an afternoon game today. The problem was the visitors didn't play last night, last played Friday at home in an 8-0 win over Victoria. I didn't know what Viper team was going to show up today, but it didn't look good early. The Vipers were outplayed, outshot and very lucky to be tied going into the 2nd period. Vernon escaped and got out of the opening frame, tied could have easily been down two or three goals. I thought a key turning point in today's game was a big stop Reilly Herbst made inside the opening minute of the middle frame, before the Wild come within inches of taking the lead, hit the post. 1:35 later the Vipers took the lead on Isaac Suppin's first career BCHL goal and the Vipers never looked back. Vernon seemed to find there legs in the second period, didn't take there foot off the gas, scored four 2nd period goals to take a 5-1 lead into the dressing room. The middle frame was the difference in the hockey game, as the Vipers have had troubles all season, putting teams away early or at any point in a hockey game. The Vipers didn't create/generate a lot of chances, but scored on there opportunities, got some timely goals from kids playing on the bottom six. Vernon gave up three PP goals but I was very impressed with the PK on the five minute major. I thought the Snakes didn't give up a lot of chances in the 2nd and 3rd periods, kept Wenatchee to the outside, limited there opportunities and only gave up sixteen shots in the final two periods. The Vipers saw a lot of time in there own end in the final twenty minutes but didn't give up a lot either. I thought all four lines stepped up, especially the 3rd and 4th lines and everyone contributed in the win. In a game where maybe the Vipers didn't deserve to win at times, they worked hard, continued to plug away and kept grinding. What's up with Matt Kowalski? Is he playing hurt or sick? He hasn't been the same player since before Christmas. Today was a huge game vs a team the Vipers are chasing. The Vipers are 3-1 vs Wenatchee this season. Vernon was two points back of Wenatchee and Salmon Arm prior to today's game. With the BCHL trade deadline coming Friday, will the Snakes make any moves? I have heard several rumors going around the rink this weekend. On a day full of World Juniors and NFL playoffs, a small crowd on hand for this afternoon's game. You have to wonder why teams put games on Sunday's during the NFL playoffs? The Vipers play every Sunday during the NFL playoffs. The Vipers snapped a two game losing streak as well as a four game losing skid at home. Prior to today Vernon had lost six of there last nine home games. The Snakes have lost five of there last seven games and nine of there last seventeen. With the win Vernon improves to 21-17-1-1 move into 3rd place in the Interior division are tied in points with Salmon Arm and Wenatchee, are ten points back of 2nd place Trail.

Top Player's: (Wenatchee)

Brett Chorske (2 goals) Was one of if not Wenatchee's most dangerous forward this afternoon.

Hunter Hastings I thought played well for most of the game.

Game Thought's: (Wenatchee)

The visiting Wild jumped on the hometown Vipers off the opening faceoff but found themselves down a goal early. The Wild fired eighteen shots towards Reilly Herbst and outplayed Vernon the 1st period but were heading to the dressing room tied in a game they deserved a better fate. The Wild let things get away in the 2nd period and couldn't climb back. After an early quality chance inside the opening minute of the 2nd period, Wenatchee looked to take the lead on an early shot a minute into the middle frame, hit the post before giving up the next goal shortly after. The Wild could have easily took the lead inside the opening minute, instead were down a goal just over two minutes into the second frame. Wenatchee couldn't recover and would give up the next three goals, to fall behind 5-1. The game was basically over as the Wild looked like a different team in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Wenatchee had troubles getting pucks to the net in the final two periods. The Wild with eighteen shots on goal after one, only recorded sixteen shots in the next two periods. The Wild didn't create/or generate much for offence in the final two periods, struggled offensively. I don't think you could blame Daniel Chenard on any of Vernon's seven goals, but at some point in the hockey game, you need a save or two with your team trailing. Chenard didn't see a lot of rubber early, needed a save or two for some confidence. I was surprised Chenard stayed in the entire game, I would have changed goaltenders after Vernon's third goal, it wasn't Chenard's fault but maybe inject some life into the Wild with a change of netminders. Wenatchee was by far the better of the two teams in the first period, had there legs going, looked full of energy, wasn't the same team in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Didn't have the same jump/energy, couldn't gain any kind of traction after falling behind. The Wild were missing some key players from there roster, you put those kids in the lineup and maybe this is a different game? A big loss for the Wild who are tied in points with Salmon Arm and Vernon. The Wild have won three of there last five are 5-5 in there last ten games. With the loss Wenatchee falls to 20-17-3-1 drop to 5th in the Interior division are twenty points ahead of 6th place Merritt.

Penticton Vees forward Jackson Niedermayer has been named the Subway BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 5.

The 18-year-old had five goals and one assist in Penticton’s three games last week, including his first-career BCHL hat trick.

After going pointless in the Vees’ New Years Day win over the Vernon Vipers, Niedermayer caught fire on Friday against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, scoring twice in his team’s 5-2 win. The following night, he notched a hat trick, including the game-winning goal, and added an assist as Penticton cruised to an 8-4 victory over the Victoria Grizzlies. He was named the game’s first star.

The Arizona State commit is up to 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points in 40 games this season, already more than five times as many points as he registered all of last year.
